I'm Mike Majewski.

I look after the systems Zürich’s schools run on. Identity, endpoints, the wifi everyone assumes will simply be there — the unglamorous machinery that is invisible until the moment it isn't. A lot of it, day to day, is first- and second-level support and the ticket queue behind it. Most of the job is making sure nobody has to think about it.

I got here sideways. Before this I wrote Java and SQL for a living. Before that I ran my own driving school for six years, and before that I worked security. That path looks scattered on paper and doesn't feel it from the inside: teaching someone to merge onto a motorway and explaining why their account is locked are closer than you'd think. Both are mostly about staying calm while somebody else isn't.

The rest of the time there's a camera, a family, and something half taken apart on the desk. I like knowing how things work, which is the only thread running through any of it.
